Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy is India's official entry for the 92nd Oscars. Zoya's filmmaker brother Farhan Akhtar announced the big news on social media on Saturday. " Gully Boyhas been selected as India's official entry to the 92nd Oscar Awards" , he tweeted.  The film features Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. The film showcases the story of an aspiring rapper named Murad ( Ranveer Singh), who dreams of making it big in the Inidan music industry. Alia Bhatt plays his love interest in the film. The film also features Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz and Vijay Varma in pivotal roles. Rajnath Singh becomes first Raksha Mantri to fly ‘LCA Tejas’

Shri Rajnath Singh has scripted history by becoming the first Raksha Mantri to fly the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) ‘Tejas’. Shri Rajnath Singh undertook 30-minute sortie in the indigenously-built multi-role fighter aircraft with Air Vice Marshall Narmdeshwar Tiwari, at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Airport in Bengaluru this morning. Raksha Mantri described his experience of flying the fourth-generation aircraft as ’thrilling and special’. Government announces Merger of PSU Banks

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a big consolidation of public sector banks. Under the scheme of amalgamation, 10 public sector banks are to be merged into four banks. After the amalgamation, the total number of Public Sector Banks in the country will come down to 12 from 27 banks in 2017 The amalgamation of banks will be in the following manner: Punjab National Bank , Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India to be merged into one single bank, with business of Rs 7.95 trillion to make India’s 2nd largest bank. Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank are to be merged to become the 4th largest public sector bank with business of Rs 15.2 lakh crore. Union Bank of India , Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank are to be merged to become the 5th largest public sector bank with business of Rs 14.6 lakh crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched nation-wide Fit India Movement from event held in Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi. It was launched on the occasion of National Sports Day (observed on 29 August) observed to commemorate birth anniversary of hockey doyen Major Dhyan Chand. Admiral Karambir Singh on 31 May 2019 assumed charge as the 24th Chief of the Naval Staff. Admiral Singh is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. Commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1980, he earned his wings as a helicopter pilot in 1981 and has flown extensively on the Chetak (Alouette) and Kamov helicopters. He is also the first helicopter pilot from the Indian Navy to lead the naval armed forces. Having commanded missile corvette INS Vijaydurg, guided-missile destroyers INS Rana & INS Delhi during his almost 40-year career, he will be Navy chief till November 2021.
